Malik and Adna are back with us for part two of our discussion “Advice from a Teaching Pro and His Beginner Wife”.
Malik is a 5.0 player, previously won the USTA player of the year, and is a teaching pro at the Raleigh Racquet Club. Adna is a 2.5 who participated in the Try Tennis Program and absolutely loves the game!
Carolyn has some great questions for Malik. The first is, “What should a player do about bad line calls?” Malik has a great answer for this. He explains that there’s not a lot you can really do about bad line calls. You could get a coach or captain to watch the lines if you feel like your opponent is making bad calls. If you’re playing a USTA tournament, you could ask for an official to watch them for you. The fact is though, there’s not a lot that can be done in adult recreational tennis matches. You can ask your opponent if they are sure they made the right call but often times it’s not to your advantage to doubt your opponents calls. Malik thinks sometimes people focus too much on that and forget to move on and focus on the next point vs. the one you think you were cheated on.
