We were thrilled to have Cy King and Julie Dick join us to discuss the 2022 Cy King Summer Classic and the Cy King Community Tennis Fund!
A Tennis Legend
Cy King is a Raleigh tennis legend and a North Carolina Tennis Hall of Famer. He played tennis at North Carolina State University, coached the William Peace University women’s tennis team, served as GM of the Raleigh Racquet Club, and worked for USTA as the USTA Southern Tennis Service Representative for North Carolina. Cy was selected as North Carolina USPTA Pro of the Year in 1996 and was inducted into the NC Tennis Hall of Fame in 2004. He also served as the President of USTA North Carolina and as President of the North Carolina Tennis Foundation.
Julie Dick is the Executive Director of the Raleigh Tennis Association (RTA) and helped create the Cy King Summer Classic. Julie is working hard behind the scenes (along with a lot of volunteers) to make sure the adult doubles, mixed, juniors, professionals and amateurs all have a positive experience while participating in the activities.
We hosted two episodes with Julie in 2021 to hear about her lifelong love of tennis. We hope you’ll listen to both episodes. You can find part one and part two.
An Inspiration to All Players
Cy is an inspiration to players in the Raleigh, North Carolina area and beyond. Everyone playing tennis today in Raleigh can thank Cy for the growth and strength of tennis in the community. He is passionate that anyone interested in playing have access to the sport. In fact, he feels so strongly about it that a community fund was created in his name along with the yearly tournament.
